A motorcyclist died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a bus while overtaking another vehicle in Bauang, police said.

Authorities identified the victim as Virgilio Rimas, the only son of Divina Rimas. He was brought to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

His mother said she was unaware her son left the house before the accident.

“Hindi ko siya nakitang lumabas ng bahay, nagulat na lang ako kasi sabi naaksidente na,” Divina said

Police said the crash happened afternoon in Barangay Pottot. Initial investigation showed the motorcycle was overtaking another vehicle when it collided with an oncoming bus traveling in the opposite direction.

“’Yung bus ay pa-south opposite direction sila, mabilis ang pag-overtake kaya tumama siya sa kanang bahagi ng bus,” PLt. Ferdinand Abenes, chief investigation officer of the Bauang Police Station, said.

Authorities said the victim was rushed to a medical facility but did not survive his injuries.

Relatives of the victim opted not to file a case after the bus company offered financial assistance, police said.

Authorities urged motorists to be careful on the road to prevent similar incidents.
