Seven people died in separate landslides in Mati City, Davao Oriental and Monkayo, Davao de Oro following continuous rains brought by the Shear Line.
According to the local government of Mati City, a couple and their two daughters died after they were trapped in their home when a landslide hit Upper Salazar, Barangay Central on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Responders from various government agencies retrieved the bodies around 10 a.m.
“Five to 10 meters ang taas (ng lupang kinatitirikan ng baha). Yong pagguho, sumabay yong bahay, nadaganan sila ng lupa. Unfortunately, sa excavation, patay na talaga sila,” Mati City Fire Station Fire Marshal, Fire Senior Inspector Elizabeth Capiña, said.
The local government expressed its sympathies to the victims’ relatives. Residents are reminded to remain alert and prepared as the bad weather continues.
Meanwhile, the local government of Monkayo town in Davao de Oro confirmed the death of three people who were buried in a landslide in Purok 5, Barangay Rizal shortly before midnight on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
The local government said two bodies were recovered at dawn on Friday, February 20, 2026, while the third victim was retrieved later in the morning.
Residents living near flood- and landslide-prone areas are urged to stay vigilant and ready for possible evacuation.
In Laak town, a portion of the road in Purok 7, Kiokmay collapsed following non-stop rains.
The soil supporting the damaged road was seen eroding, making the area unsafe for travel for those going to Barangay Aguinaldo from Kiokmay and vice versa.
In New Bataan, the approach to Batutu Bridge has been closed temporarily after the approach (Panag-Cogonon Road) collapsed on Friday following continuous rains.
The public is advised not to pass through the area due to hazardous conditions.
The public may pass through the center of Barangay Panag going to Barangay Katipunan, then proceed via Compostela to New Bataan.
High floodwaters also entered several houses in Barangay Doña Andrea in Asuncion, Davao del Norte.
