Several motorists were affected after a tree fell and blocked a road in General Santos City following continuous rains morning on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Traffic slowed down when a narra tree toppled on J. Catolico Street in Barangay Lagao around 6:30 a.m.
No one was reported hurt in the incident. However, an ambulant vendor who was stationed near the tree said he escaped being hit narrowly.
The vendor said he heard a loud cracking sound before the tree fell.
“Pagtumba sa kahoy sir mga 6:30 naa ko sa tungod tingala ko unsay nagdaguok sa ilalum, kahoy diay natumba, unya nagpasalamat ko sa ginoo nga gitabangan ko niya,” vendor, Richard Brigole, said.
Brigole said the tree had long been at risk of falling as it was already rotten and hollow inside.
“Gabukon, lata na ang punuan,” Brigole added.
Personnel of the City Engineering Office, Public Safety Office, and barangay workers immediately conducted a clearing operation to remove the fallen tree and restore traffic flow.
