Smoke engulfed an area in Barangay Poblacion, Kalibo, Aklan as a printing shop caught fire morning on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
“Ang porsyon siguro kung saan banda ang nag-spark, nandoon ang aking mga tela,” Dexter Edaño, owner of the shop, said.
Edaño said that there were persons inside the shop. However, they already left for home when the fire broke out.
The fire destroyed printing machines.
Based on initial investigation done by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Kalibo, electrical short circuit could have started the fire.
“Sa circuit breaker. So, merong parang naputol na part ng kable. So, nilo-look into yan for laboratory examination,” Fire Senior Insp. Delsie de Borja, fire marshal of BFP Kalibo, said.
According to the shop owner, the fire left behind approximately P10 million in damages. However, according to the operational manual of BFP, damage is estimated to have reached P3.4 million only.
On the other hand, BFP said, the shop owner may submit an affidavit of loss for a thorough investigation.
No casualty was reported. No one was reported injured in the incident.
