Church officials urged Cebuanos to participate in the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution.

The Archdiocese of Cebu has organized various activities for the 40th anniversary set on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

A Holy Mass will be celebrated at the Basilica del Santo Niño Pilgrim Center at 1:45 p.m. to be followed by a short program.

By 3 p.m., bells will be tolled simultaneously in all churches in Cebu.

A march from the Pilgrim Center to the Plaza Independencia will follow immediately, seen to resemble the convergence of groups from different points of origin and various walks of life during the 1986 bloodless popular uprising.

“Reliving the spirit of EDSA through the hot issue of today which is corruption, the need for good governance, and to address social structures,” said Fr. Jose (Baggy) Bagadiong, president of the Association of Consecrated Men of Cebu.

Msgr. Renato Beltran read aloud Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy’s message to would-be participants of the activities.

“Our children and young people are learning for what we choose to remember or forget, if we do not show them that EDSA still matters they may grow up thinking corruption is normal, that abuse of power is acceptable, [that] silence is safer than courage,” Uy said through Beltran, chancellor of the Archdiocese of Cebu.

A concert dubbed “Yukbo Paghandum” will be staged in the late afternoon to the evening.

Organizers have announced that political leaders are not allowed to speak in the activities.

“I would like to celebrate EDSA through music and good enough ang ako mga kailang musikero nidapig nato,” Atty. Mel Libre, organizer of the concert, said.

This will be the second staging of Sugbuanong Pakigbisog Kontra Korapsyon (SuPaKK) since November 30, 2025.

Further, groups of lawyers agreed to take up legal action against massive corruption that brought social injustice to the Cebuanos.

One of which is the creation of an office where the Ceubanos can file their complaints against individuals involved in anomalous government programs and projects.

“Og mo-file og damages complaint against politicians asa man modangop ang atong citizens, mga Cebuanos. Second, usahay mahadlok ang usa ka tawo mosumbong og corruption against their leaders, kinahanglan naay safe space para adto sila mosumbong,” said Atty. Jay Pujanes, president of Free Legal Assistance Group-Cebu.
