Torrential rains brought by the shear line triggered flooding in several areas in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur and Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

Residents in Marawi City experienced rushing floodwaters, which carried debris, following non-stop rains.

Videos circulating on social media showed strong currents that slowed down traffic in some areas affected.

Floodwaters also entered several houses, with water levels rising to nearly knee-deep.

Authorities said several barangays were affected, including Barangays Kilala, Dimaluna, Beyaba-Damag, and Lumidong.

A portion of the Mindanao State University (MSU) was also flooded.

Power lines were also affected but were restored later.

Because of the flooding, classes in Lanao del Sur, including at MSU, were suspended on Monday, February 23, 2026.

Local government units have conducted damage assessments in the affected areas.

FLOODING IN SULTAN KUDARAT

Meanwhile, several motorists and establishments were affected by street flooding in Tacurong City following heavy rains on Sunday.

A road appeared like a “sea” as floodwaters submerged portions of major streets.

Some establishments were also inundated, while several motorists experienced difficulty passing through flooded roads.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the street flooding was also caused by the shear line.

No one was reported hurt in the incident, and the floodwaters reportedly subsided after more than an hour.

Clogged drainage systems were identified as one of the causes of the flooding. The local government is now inspecting the area.

“Naga-ikot yung sa engineering namin. Ini-inspeksyon nila ang area kung ano ang cause at kung ano ang magawa. And after this, ipatawag ulit namin ang DPWH regarding this matter. Kasi ang area namin, highway yung always binabaha,” CDRRMO Head, Hilda Mercado, said.
