Authorities tore down makeshift sluice boxes allegedly used in illegal hydraulicking, locally known as illegal “banlas” mining, in Tampakan, South Cotabato.

According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-SOCCSKSARGEN (DENR-12), field operatives found high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, collapsible hoses, fish nets, metal screens, shovels, tarpaulins, and sluice boxes during the anti-illegal mining operation.

These materials were destroyed on-site to render them unusable and serve as a strong deterrent against future violations.

“The DENR reiterated its unwavering dedication to safeguarding the nation's mineral wealth and ensuring the safety and well-being of communities living near mining zones,” DENR-12 said.

“It can be recalled that the DENR-MGB similarly conducted an anti-illegal mining raid in Kiamba, Sarangani Province in January demonstrating the agency's consistent and region-wide resolve to combat unlawful mining activities,” it added.

Authorities urged the public to report any suspected illegal mining activities to the nearest DENR or Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) office.

DENR-12 maintained that anti-illegal mining operations will be sustained and intensified further throughout the region.
