Church leaders and cause-oriented groups in Bacolod City will converge again for another protest action against corruption in time for the 40th anniversary of the EDSA Revolution on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
The protest is a call for accountability of individuals involved in massive corruption in government, an end to political dynasty, and to commemorate the 1986 EDSA Revolution.
A Holy Mass will be celebrated outside of the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol at 1:30 p.m. This will be followed by a march toward the Bacolod City Public Plaza where a short program will be held.
Priests and members of the Negrense community recalled their experience from 40 years back.
“Noong una’y kinabahan ako. Bakit? Natural, ano ang mangyayari? Magiging matagumpay ang People Power o hindi? Nang nakita naming dumadami ang tao, doon na namin naramdaman na ang kapangyarihan ng tao ang mahalaga,” said Rev. Fr. Arman Onion, convenor of One Negros Ecumenical Council.
Fr. Anacleto Buenafe, fellow convenor, said he was then a seminarian attending to laborers in a rally.
“Ang memories ko noong EDSA ay ang mga tao. Farmers, peasants who took refuge at the seminary because of the welgang bayan,” Buenafe said.
Bing Nuñez, a women’s rights advocate, was just 18 years old during the 1986 popular uprising. She thought she would not survive that period in history because of the initial tension that the revolt brought.
“Namulat ako…mga madre na nag-barricade sa mga tangke, nasaksihan ko talaga yun. What for na ginawa yun ng mga tao. Nag-pray ako, ‘Lord, baka mamatay kami dito,” Nuñez said.
Organizers hope that more Filipinos still feel the spirit of EDSA and will turn out on February 25.
