Authorities are investigating a bullying incident involving students in a school in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur after a video of the attack went viral on social media.

The video shows a female student being pushed and hit by another student during what was reportedly their lunch break. In the footage, the victim was shoved and struck with a backpack. She was also seen being kicked and punched in the head until she broke down in tears.

Police are also looking into who recorded and circulated the video online.

Narvacan Mayor issued a statement condemning the incident.

“As Mayor of Narvacan, I strongly condemn the reported incidents of violence involving students…” the mayor said.

“This is not just a school issue. This is a community responsibility. I call on parents, teachers, and community leaders to stay vigilant and to guide our children with discipline, compassion, and strong values,” he added.

“To the parents and guardians of the students affected, please be assured that child safety remains our priority, and we will take the necessary steps to prevent a repeat of this incident,” he said.

The mayor said the safety of children remains a priority of the local government and called on parents and teachers to be more watchful in guiding students.

In a separate statement, the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Ilocos Sur said it immediately sent guidance counselors to the school to assist those involved. It said an investigation is underway to determine the root cause of the incident.

The Learner Protection Team of the division office has also taken steps to place those involved under appropriate interventions. The victim and the entire class will undergo counseling with the help of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

“Bullying in any form — whether physical, verbal, psychological, or online — is unacceptable and shall never be tolerated in our school,” the SDO said.

The Philippine National Police, in coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, is also conducting a separate investigation.

GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon has sought comment from the parents of the students involved as well as from the school administration.
