Police arrested two men after they allegedly threw a liquor bottle at officers manning a checkpoint in Mangaldan, Pangasinan.

Authorities said the two were first stopped at the checkpoint for not wearing helmets while riding a motorcycle. Officers issued a citation ticket to them.

About 10 minutes later, the two men allegedly returned to the checkpoint and hurled a bottle of liquor at the policemen and fled the scene.

No officer was hit but the police said the act was a form of assault, thus, they pursued the two and arrested them.

“Considered po na pambabastos ang ginawa nila. Direct assault po ang ginawa nila,” Police Captain Hernando Martinez, chief investigator of the Mangaldan Police Station, said.

“May mga nakapagturo sa kanila kaya nahuli na namin sila,” Martinez said.

Authorities filed charges of direct assault and unjust vexation upon an agent of a person in authority against the two men.

A relative of one of the suspects said the pair had come from a drinking session and were on their way to eat when they were flagged down at the checkpoint. The relative said the two regret what they did.

“Ag la kuno naulit ta syempre asali to lay akulong… Hindi na raw mauulit kasi syempre nasubukan na niyang makulong,” the relative said.

Police reminded the public to respect law enforcement officers and to comply with checkpoint operations.
