A 43-year-old man who was hanging onto a public utility jeepney (PUJ) died after he was pinned during a road crash involving four vehicles in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
Based on investigation, a 10-wheeler truck carrying cement was traveling along the municipal road from a port heading to the national highway when it reportedly lost its brakes, causing it to crash into a tractor and hit a pickup truck and the PUJ.
The PUJ passenger was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
“Very unfortunate kayo kay adunay nagkabit sa maong de pasaherong sakyanan ug kini naipit ang maong indibidwal ug miresulta sa iyang kamatayon,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said.
The 10-wheeler truck driver was taken into police custody after the incident but was released later after all parties involved reportedly reached an agreement.
Authorities reminded motorists anew to check their vehicles before traveling to prevent accidents.
“Dapat road worthy kani ma-check gyud no dili lang ang ligid sa maong mga sakyanan but apil usab ang mga mechanical nga aspeto labi na kining brake kay daghan na pud kita nga mga aksidente,” Navarro added.
