Authorities launched a joint search and rescue (SAR) operation for the six fishermen on board motorbanca Liezel in Davao Oriental.

Personnel of the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) and the Philippine Navy activated the SAR operations in the waters off Pujada Bay and Lawigan Bay.

CGDSEM reported earlier that the fishermen went missing while fishing off Manay town. They were reported missing on February 20, 2026, and have not returned home, as of this writing.

CGDSEM deployed BRP Malamawi along with MEDICAL-SEM personnel to support the ongoing operation.

The Philippine Navy also deployed maritime and aerial assets, including PS37, PC381, and aircraft NV392.

“Further strengthening the search efforts are response teams from Coast Guard Sub-Stations (CGSS) Pujada and Mati, as well as personnel from the Philippine National Police Maritime Group, ensuring a coordinated and comprehensive SAR operation,” CGDSEM said.

CGDSEM has urged all vessels, watercraft, and fishermen navigating within or near the area to exercise heightened vigilance and assist in search operations.

“Anyone who may have sighted the missing fishermen or the motor banca “LEIZL” is urged to immediately report to the nearest Coast Guard Station or contact the Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental hotline at 0966-837-0536 for prompt coordination and appropriate action,” CGDSEM added.
