Various groups in Mindanao staged rallies on the 40th anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

Progressive groups gathered at the Freedom Park on Roxas Avenue in Davao City to express their sentiments.

The groups said even though 40 years have passed, the suffering of the people under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., the son of ousted dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., continues.

They also called for accountability from officials allegedly involved in government corruption.

The groups added that the commemoration also serves as a reminder to defend human rights.

“Isabuhay ang diwa ng people power tuloy tuloy na manawagan at ipaglaban ang ating karapatan ikulong ang lahat ng may pananagutan sa korapsyon ngayon,” Anakbayan Southern Mindanao Region Chairperson, Fauzhea Guiani, said.

In Cagayan de Oro City, several religious and civil society groups also gathered to remember the significance of the so-called bloodless revolution.

The Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro organized a march against corruption along the city’s main streets to urge the government to hold officials allegedly involved in corruption accountable.

“Ang impunity mao ang kakulang sa pananagutan walay silut, kanunay maka lingkawas mao bitaw na sa mga batan-on karon ang singgit mangot ang dapat managot mao na ang isa sa panawagan nato,” Archbishop Jose Cabantan said.

Thousands of devotees brought placards as they joined the parade.

One of those who participated was Rev. Fr. Willy Vallar, a native of Misamis Oriental, who claimed to have personally experienced the EDSA People Power Revolution in 1986.

“Kato gyud kasagsagan sa pag-defend ni Enrile ug ni Ramos didto ko ato sa gate gyud sa camp crame. So, kami tung nipugong gyud sa gate sa camp crame ang uban mao pud ang nipugong sa katung mga tangke,” Vallar said.

He said the people’s voice is crucial for change.

“Kinahanglan gyud nga dili ta muhunong sa pagpadayag sa atong tinguha nga atong pangandoy nga maayong pang-gobyerno, maayo nga honesty and transparency naa gyud na,” Vallar added.

Meanwhile, members of the Promotion of Church People’s Response (PCPR) also held a mass demonstration on Velez Street to remember the 40th year of EDSA People Power Revolution.

The group called on the public to remember the core message of democracy delivered by the movement, to end political dynasties in the country, and to hold officials involved in corruption accountable.

“Kining pagpaningil sa mga anaa sa korapsyon hilabi na sa presidente sa bise presidente ug si kinsa man ang mga nalambigit niining grabeng korapsyon karon nga nahitabo sa atong katilingban,” PCPR Spokesperson, Fr. Rolando Abejo, said.
