A 10-wheeler truck ran over a woman driving a motorcycle on the national highway of Dalaguete, Cebu.
The woman died on the spot because of severe wounds sustained.
The incident took place on a portion of the national highway in Barangay Mananggal, Dalaguete, southern Cebu past 4 p.m. on February 25, 2026.
The victim was identified only as “Shena,” of legal age, married, and a resident of the said barangay.
Police Major Vincent Awit Zozobrado, chief of Dalaguete Police Station, said that based on investigation, the victim and the truck were moving in the same direction.
The motorcycle was traversing the road in front of the truck. However, the right turn signal light of the motorcycle was reportedly blinking.
Given the said signal, the truck moved to the left side, until the two vehicles were at parallel, or moving side by side. But the victim turned left suddenly and slammed in front of the truck.
The rider fell and was ran over by the truck.
“Naay nakakita niliwag pud pa-left ang driver, so pag-liwag murag unhan na lang niya ba kay kahibaw man ang driver nga mopadaplin, di ba? So, pagpadaplin na niya, nag-abot sila, nakalabaw sya gamay sa motor, nikalit lang kuno og left, padung kabig sa wala ang motor, maong naigo sa middle portion sa truck, mao to nalagpot, nya mao to nalatayan pa gyud tawn. Akong paminaw ato, murag ang driver sa motor intawn, may she rest in peace, mao sad iyang pangagpas ba kanang way tan-aw tan-aw gud, dretso-dretso lang ba, mao ng nadisgrasya intawn,” Zozobrado said.
Zozobrado also said that the family of the victim settled amicably with the driver of the truck.
Zozobrado emphasized how important defensive driving is to ensure safety while traversing national highways.
“Dapat lang sa mga motorista, sa mag-drive og sakyanan, dapat defensive driving lang gyud ta, safety lang gyud ta kanunay, kay kita duna pa'y pamilya nagpaabot nato sa tagsa-tagsa ka balay,” Zozobrado added.
