Three separate fire incidents struck areas in Iloilo with damages pegged at over P800,000.
A fire broke out in Barangay San Jose, San Miguel, Iloilo at around 9 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026.
The blaze started at the house of one Rosalie Gonzales. According to her, the fire spread quickly.
“Nagdala na ako ng malaking balde kasi akala ko mabubuhusan ko pa ng tubig. Ngunit lumagablab na. Sumigaw ako, ‘Diyos ko, Diyos ko! Tulungan nyo ako! Ang bahay namin nasusunog’,” Gonzales said.
The fire destroyed at least three houses and a "sari-sari" (variety) store. Damage left behind by the fire reached approximately P410,000.
“Hindi pa kami nakakabalik regarding sa imbestigasyon. Ang sa amin kanina, nag-respond kami at kumuha ng details sa mga may-ari,” said FO1 Jeremy Ambaan of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) - San Miguel.
A fire razed a warehouse for construction materials separately.
The incident occurred in Barangay Dungon B, Jaro, Iloilo City past 8 a.m. The warehouse also served as barracks for construction workers.
“Nakahiga ako sa aming silid nang nakarinig ako ng dalawang putok. Pagputok, palabas ako, lumalagablab na ang apoy dito na area,” Army Ryan, a resident, said.
No one was in the barracks when the fire occurred.
Damage was pegged approximately at P390,000.
“Lahat kami nasa site. Kami nasa Molo. Yung iba sa Mandurriao. Nakakalat kami. Kung araw wala talagang tao. Ngunit dito kami natutulog,” explained “Nonoy,” a construction worker.
Meanwhile, a fire engulfed an abandoned fishing vessel at the Iloilo Fish Port Complex past 2 a.m.
BFP has yet to investigate further on the incident, as of this writing.
“Magpapadala kami ng letter sa kanila as to the ownership. Actually, lately lang naman, 2020 lang naman ang barko nag-dock. After pag-dock, may activities pa ngunit na-observe nila later on na wala na,” according to SFO1 Denmark Macoco, chief investigator of BFP-Iloilo City.
At least 113 fire incidents in the region were logged from January 1, 2026 to February 26, according to BFP 6.
Most of the causes are caused by faulty electrical lines and octopus connection.
"Regular nating inspeksyunin. And kung maaari, mga professional electrician ang mag-check. Ang extension cords, gamitin natin temporary lang. Hindi yung gagamitin natin for 24 hours,” said FSSupt. Bartolome Beliran, assistant regional director for operations of BFP 6.
