Several houses and schools were submerged in floodwaters after heavy rains caused flooding in Cotabato City on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Floodwaters entered the kitchen of a house in Mother Barangay Rosario Heights after hours of intense rains.
A woman was seen riding on a large Styrofoam box pushed by residents to help her cross knee-deep floodwaters on Sinsuat Avenue.
In the lower part of the city, a man was forced to push his pedicab through deep floodwaters just to reach an elevated portion of the road that was not submerged.
Schools were also affected by the flooding. A photo taken by a student from Rojas National High School showed a flooded Grade 11 classroom.
According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), at least three barangays were affected, including RH Mother, RH6, and Bagua II.
However, floodwaters reportedly subsided after more than an hour.
CDRRMO explained that aside from heavy rains, narrow drainage canals caused the urban and street flooding.
“Ang problema naman po talaga natin sa urban flooding sa Cotabato City, maliit po ang kanal natin pero eventually, nagsa-subside naman yung tubig baha natin diyan. Most likely, aabot ng one hour lamang po,” CDRRMO Head, Rashman Nazer, said.
No damage or casualties were reported.
Authorities advised residents, especially those living in low-lying areas, to stay alert during downpour.
“Ina-advise-an po natin ang mga barangays at constituent sa Cotabato na magmasid-masid po lalo na sa mga lower areas. Bantayan po yung pag-akyat ng tubig, lalo na yung mga lugar na malapit sa ilog,” Liim added.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the rains affecting parts of Mindanao were caused by the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.
