A barangay health worker tagged by authorities as a former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) and facing various charges was arrested in Barangay Poblacion, Carmen, Surigao del Sur.
The Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (SDSPPO) identified the suspect as alias “Je-ann,” 28, a resident of Sitio Banahaw, Barangay Maitom, Tandag City.
Police said the suspect was documented as a former member of the NPA’s GFC 30 under the Megan group.
The suspect was arrested by virtue of warrants for various charges, including arson and frustrated murder, issued by a court in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur.
She was also charged for violating Article 325 of the Revised Penal Code after she allegedly burned her own property to commit arson. The court allowed her to post bail of P24,000.
The suspect was taken into police custody and will be brought to court.
“The successful arrest of alias “Je-ann," is a significant victory for the rule of law in Surigao del Sur. This operation, conducted by the 1st PMFC and Carmen MPS, reflects our unwavering commitment to apprehending wanted persons, regardless of their affiliations or positions in the community,” SDSPPO Director, Col. Jeffrey Lawrence Mauricio, said.
