Five people, including an eight-month-old girl, were injured after the multipurpose vehicle (MPV) they were riding crashed into a truck on the national highway in Barangay Tinagacan, General Santos City.
Based on investigation, the MPV reportedly attempted to overtake the truck on the right side toward the outer lane while the truck was reportedly re-entering the inner lane after slowing down from a parked position, which resulted in the collision.
“Si vehicle 2 (MPV) nag-attempt siya nag-overtake doon sa right which is papunta ng outer lane doon sa lane ni vehicle 1, which is may attempt to re-enter papasok sa inner lane. As a result nagkaroon ng collision doon sa rear portion ng vehicle 1,” Traffic Enforcement Unit of the General Santos City Police Office (TEU-GSCPO) Chief, Lt. Col. Patrich Elma, said.
TEU said four of the five people on board the MPV sustained injuries in the head and body, including the baby, while another 22-year-old passenger was unharmed.
On the other hand, the 23-year-old truck driver of the truck was also injured.
The two parties involved are set to meet for a settlement.
Authorities are looking into overspeeding as a contributing factor to the incident.
Police reminded motorists anew to observe the speed limit along the national highway, which ranges from 50 to 70 kilometers per hour to prevent accidents.
“Sundin na lang natin ang speed limit na within that area sa national highway na nasa 50-70 Kph sana para maka-adjust,” Elma added.
