Four people were killed in separate road accidents in Misamis Oriental over the weekend.

A 36-year-old rider died while his 29-year-old male companion was injured seriously after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a closed van-type truck on the national highway in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Tagoloan town.

Based on investigation, the truck was reportedly heading toward Butuan City when the motorcycle bound for Tagoloan proper swerved and crashed into the truck.

Because of the impact, the rider and his companion were thrown off. The rider died on the spot while his companion was brought to a hospital.

The truck driver was taken into police custody but was released later after both parties reportedly reached an agreement.

In Villanueva town, another rider and his companion died after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a fuel tanker truck and was ran over by another six-wheeler truck on the national highway in Barangay Katipunan.

Police said both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when the motorcycle allegedly veered off suddenly, which caused the collision.

The drivers of the two trucks were taken into police custody but were also released later after the parties involved reached an agreement.

Meanwhile, a 38-year-old rider did not reach the hospital alive after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a truck on the national highway in Barangay Calamcam, Talisayan town.

Investigators said the motorcycle overshot and crashed into the oncoming truck.

The truck driver was taken into police custody after the incident while authorities continue to coordinate with the parties involved for a possible settlement.

Police reminded motorists to follow traffic rules and regulations to prevent accident.
