Two Chinese nationals and three Filipinos were arrested in an anti-illegal mining operation in Barangay Wasian, Rosario, Agusan del Sur on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
According to the Police Regional Office-Caraga (PRO-13), the two foreigners, 50 and 55 years old and both residents of Hanchuan City, Hubei Province, China, reportedly served as financiers.
On the other hand, the three Filipinos arrested are residents of Agusan del Sur and Davao City and worked as laborers and backhoe operators.
During the operation, authorities seized illegal mining equipment worth around P6.1 million.
The suspects may face charges for violation of the Philippine Mining Act (RA 7942).
“PNP Caraga and partner agencies remain fully committed to intensifying the campaign against illegal mining and other crimes that endangers the environment and natural resources,” PRO-13 Director, Brigadier General Marcial Mariano Magistrado IV, said. PRO-13 urged the public to report any information related to illegal mining and other illegal activities in the region.
