An alleged former finance officer of the New People’s Army (NPA) in the Caraga region, who is wanted for various charges, was arrested in Barangay Tigatto, Buhangin District, Davao City.
According to the Army’s 4th Infantry Division (4ID), the suspect identified as “Che-Che” was the former finance officer of SYP16A, Guerilla Front 16 of the NPA’s Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee operating in Caraga.
The military said the suspect was arrested by virtue of a warrant for murder, frustrated murder, and multiple attempted murder.
Meanwhile, another alleged communist rebel surrendered to troops of the 1st Special Forces Battalion in Bukidnon.
4ID said the arrest of a former NPA officer and the surrender of another rebel were proof that the operational capability and support networks of the rebel group have already weakened.
“These accomplishments manifest the sustained momentum of our focused military operations and strengthened collaboration with our law enforcement counterparts. The arrest of a former finance officer weakens the enemy’s logistical and financial support structure, while every surrender signifies a life redirected toward peace and progress,” 4ID Commander, Major General Michele Anayron Jr., said.
The military urged the remaining NPA members to lay down their arms, abandon the armed struggle, and take advantage of the government’s peace and development initiatives.
