Several women’s groups staged a protest in General Santos City on Friday, March 6, 2026, to mark National Women’s Month.
Fishworkers Solidarity-Sentro Women and Akbayan groups led the demonstration at the Central Public Market.
The groups highlighted the persistent issues of injustice, abuse, and economic neglect faced by women.
The groups also condemned the remarks made by a lawmaker targeting an actress during a hearing in the House of Representatives, describing the statement as a form of abuse against women.
The congressman has since apologized, but the groups maintained that perpetrators of abuse must be held accountable.
Protesters also urged the government to fight corruption, stressing that officials involved in corruption must be held accountable and put behind bars.
