Rice priced at P20 per kilo is now being offered to members of the vulnerable and marginalized sectors in Misamis Oriental starting Friday, March 6, 2026.

Officials of the Department of Agriculture-Northern Mindanao (DA-10), National Food Authority-Northern Mindanao (NFA-10), and the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental led the rollout of the program.

Governor Juliette Uy emphasized that the P20-per-kilo rice is intended for those families struggling with rising living costs.

“Kini nga bugas dili ni para sa tanan para ni sa kato gyud lisod gyud kayo sila ang beneficiary ani. Kini atong gipangtagaan og bugas dili kami ang nagbuot ani gikan kini sa DSWD ang una gyud gitagaan og pabor ang 6th, 5th ug 4th class municipality,” Uy said.

“Nalipay nga naka-avail ko ani naka-save pud ko kay ang bugas baya ron kay mahal kayo dako na kayong tabang ni,” a resident added.

DA-10 said more than 2,00 sacks of rice have been prepared for distribution across the province, with a limit of 10 kilos per person per day.

DA-10 director, Jose Apollo Pacamalan, explained that the NFA regularly buys rice from local farmers and releases it during harvest season.

“Kanunay gapamalit ang NFA og bugas sa mga mag-uuma ug matag panahon nga ting harvest na usab susama karon sa Northern Mindanao diin nagsugod na ang harvesting kinahanglan na sab i-release sa NFA ang ilahang mga nakumpra nga bugas katung miaging duha ka bulan aron mabutangan usab og bag-o,” Pacamalan said.

NFA-10 assured that the rice offered at P20 per kilo meets quality standards.

“Yun po ang isa sa maisisiguro namin hindi po kami magre-release ng bigas na hindi maganda ang quality dahil istrikto po kami sa pamimili ng palay ibig sabihin kapag bumili kami ng quality na palay pag-giniling yan ay quality rice naman,” NFA-10 Manager, Miguel Tecson, said.
