An alleged second in command of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Hassan Group (DI-HG) was killed in a military operation in Barangay Tinimbacan, Banisilian, Cotabato on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
The Army’s 6th Infantry Division (6ID) identified the fatality as Emarudin Kulaw, a former emir who later became a sub-leader of DI-HG.
6ID said Kulaw was considered a high-value individual due to his alleged involvement in various atrocities in the region.
The military said Kulaw was facing various charges, including murder, double murder, multiple attempted murder, destructive arson, and violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act, among others.
During clearing operations, soldiers seized an M653 rifle from Kulaw.
6ID commander, Major General Jose Vladimir Cagara, said the operation demonstrated the government’s commitment to eliminating terror threats in communities.
“Mananatili kaming matatag sa pagtugis sa mga grupong naghahasik ng karahasan upang matiyak ang kaligtasan at kapayapaan ng ating mga mamamayan,” Cagara said.
The military said clearing operations continue in the area, as of this writing, to secure the community and prevent any potential threats following the operation.
