Supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte gathered in Davao City on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, for a Mass and for what they called a “Walk for Justice” exactly one year after Duterte was arrested and brought to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
Vice President Sara Duterte attended the Mass at the San Pedro Cathedral.
“It is unthinkable that a government, no matter the political differences with the administration, would send a citizen to a foreign jurisdiction, to be detained and tried for crimes against humanity na walang basehan at walang maayos witnesses. So, galit ang mga tao, isang taon na silang galit. Hindi humuhupa ‘yung galit hanggang hindi mabalik dito sa Pilipinas si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte,” the Vice President said.
Supporters prayed that the former president would be freed and brought back home.
“Subo lang, subo kaayo. Unta makauli na siya,” a supporter, Jenevie Sumampong, said.
“Nag-ampo gyud ko nga hinaot unta nga makagawas na siya, si Presidente Duterte, makauli nganhi sa Pilipinas,” another supporter, Elioteria Acierda, said.
Supporters also participated in a “Walk for Justice” from Magsaysay Park to Rizal Park in Davao City in the afternoon.
The former President was arrested on March 11, 2025, by virtue of a warrant issued by the ICC for alleged crimes against humanity in connection with his administration’s war against illegal drugs.
In a statement, the Vice President said the anniversary of the former president’s arrest should serve as a wake-up call for Filipinos to remain vigilant and ensure that government institutions stay independent, honest, and resilient against any attempt to undermine justice.
She also urged the public to respect the country’s sovereignty and uphold integrity and justice.
“Ngayong araw, ginugunita natin ang unang anibersaryo ng isang kaganapang sumubok sa ating demokrasya at sa mga prinsipyo ng due process at rule of law,” the Vice President said.
The Vice President also said they continue to push for her father’s interim release from the ICC.
“Every time na may opportunity na mag-apply ng interim release si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ay gagawin ‘yun kahit pa man ide-deny ‘yun at alam natin na ide-deny ‘yun ng korte, gagawin pa rin natin,” she said.
