A 53-year-old construction worker was arrested during the service of a search warrant at his home in Barangay Embarcadero in Mangaldan, Pangasinan after authorities recovered ammunition believed to be linked to illegal firearm possession.

Police said the suspect had been the subject of complaints from neighbors who claimed he would pull out a gun allegedly and threaten people whenever he got drunk.

Authorities from the Mangaldan Police Station served the search warrant early Monday morning at the suspect’s residence. During the operation, police seized five live rounds of .22 caliber ammunition.

Police Lt. Colonel Perlito Tuayon, chief of the Mangaldan Police Station, said the operation followed reports from concerned residents.

“’Yung mga kapitbahay niya nagrereklamo kasi palagi daw siyang naglalabas ng baril,” Tuayon said.

The suspect, however, denied the accusations. He said he does not own a firearm and has never threatened his neighbors while intoxicated.

Authorities brought the suspect to a medical facility for examination before taking him to the police station for booking and documentation. The seized ammunition will undergo ballistic examination as part of the investigation.

Police said charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, which regulates firearms and ammunition in the Philippines, are being prepared against the suspect.
