Military troops seized up to 295 hand grenades from an arms cache in Barangay Piagolongan, Marogong, Lanao del Sur on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

According to the Army’s 1st Infantry Division (1ID), the explosives are believed to have been hidden by remaining members of the Daulah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG).

1ID said the find is a significant blow to the operational capacity of terrorist and threat groups in the area.

“Their removal from circulation directly translates to lives protected, communities secured, and the prevention of potential mass casualty attacks,” 1ID said.

The military also underscored the importance of civilian cooperation and trust in security forces, which led to the discovery of the cache.

“This act of civic courage reflects a meaningful shift in the communities of Lanao del Sur towards a growing preference for peace over the presence of instruments of conflict in their midst,” 1ID added.

SEPARATE OPERATION

Early in the week, military troops recovered an abandoned vehicle containing high-powered guns and ammunition in Malabang town.

1ID said an incident of indiscriminate firing was reported in the area, prompting police officers and military troops to respond and conduct clearing operations.

During the operation, authorities discovered a minivan with no pertinent documents abandoned in the area.

“We call on the public to continue supporting our security forces by reporting suspicious activities,” the 101st Infantry Brigade said.
