A man caught trying to steal a motorcycle was beaten by residents in Barangay Anolid, Mangaldan, Pangasinan.
Cellphone footage shows the suspect riding a parked motorcycle along the national highway at around 1 a.m. He appeared to be trying to start the bike when another man approached and struck him. Another resident soon joined, and together they beat the suspect before he ran away.
“May lalaking palakad-lakad tapos may nakapansin doon sa lalaki na tropa niya, minamanmanan na’yung motorsiklo,” Allan Ceralde, brother of the motorcycle owner, said.
The motorcycle was not stolen, so the family did not file a police report. However, authorities are investigating the case.
“Pinapakiusap namin na sana na-apprehend ‘yun kasi syempre sana maimbestigahan at saka pwede na kasing sampahan ng kaso ‘yun,” PLTCOL. Perlito Tuayon, chief of the Mangaldan Police Station, said.
Tuayon reminded the public that citizen arrests are allowed in such cases, and residents should call the police immediately. He also advised motorcycle owners to secure their vehicles rather than leaving them parked along the highway.
Authorities are working to identify the suspect and determine if he is connected to previous motorcycle thefts in the area.
