At least seven gasoline stations in Cagayan de Oro City were found selling overpriced petroleum products during a surprise inspection on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Personnel of the Department of Energy (DOE)-Mindanao and the Cagayan de Oro City Price Coordinating Council (CPCC) conducted the inspection to check if gas stations complied with policies such as the Price Act and to ensure that consumers are protected following the increase in fuel prices.

CPCC Vice President, Atty. Edgardo Uy, said DOE has already issued inspection reports and is set to issue show cause orders for gas stations found with violations.

Uy said if the gas station fails to justify the overpricing, the DOE may revoke their license to operate and recommend to the city government the revocation of their business permits.

“Ang DOE nag-isyu naman sila og inspection report, ilang pasundan kato og show cause order kung dili ma-justify sa hingtungdan lugar nga gasoline station nganong naa’y kalapasan ilang i-revoke ang license to operate and then mag-recommend sila sa LGU sa City of Cagayan de Oro nga i-revoke usab ang business permit,” Uy said.

Authorities said most of the violators were independent players in the petroleum industry, who sold fuel at higher prices.

“Kasagaran ana taas kuno ang ilang pagpalit, taas daan ang ilang pagpalit (sa produktong petrolyo) muna ang atong gatan-awon,” Uy added.

CPCC said the inspection is only the first round of the monitoring efforts.

Authorities urged the public to report gasoline stations suspected of violating the Price Act by taking photos and indicating the specific gas station and address to help authorities in their investigation.

“Abli permi (atong opisina) ang atong lang request nga ato lang i-document atong i-picture then kung naa man picture man galing mas maayo nga naa’y time stamp para dili gyud ma-deny. Ipakita usab kung unsa nga gasoline station dayun specific nga address,” Uy said.
