A group of taxi operators in Cagayan de Oro City is pushing for an increase in the flag-down rate following the rising prices of petroleum products.
Officials of the Cagayan de Oro First Taxi Drivers Alliance (CAFITADA) met with officials of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulator Board-Northern Mindanao (LTFRB-10) to express their plan to file a petition for a fare adjustment.
CAFITADA President, Bernie Jamaca, said they are proposing to raise the flag-down rate from P40 to P60, while succeeding rate may increase from P13.50 to P15. The waiting time charge per minute may also be raised from P2 to P3.
“Para sa flagdown rate increase gikan sa P40 mahimo siyang P60, unya ang atong succeeding nga P13.50 mahimo siyang P15, dayon atong waiting time per minute gikan sa 2 pesos mahimong 3 pesos lang,” Jamaca said.
Jamaca said the last approved fare adjustment for taxis was in 2017. He added that a P5 provincial increase was granted in 2023, but it was not implemented because their taxi meters were not recalibrated.
“Walay nakapatuman ato nga driver kay dili mobayad ang pasahero kay dili man mo-reflect sa ilang resibo. Mao gyud na atong katuyuan nga ma-recalibrate arun legal atong basehanan ug dili katong hung-hungan lang nato ang pasahero nga naay plus 5 or plus 10,” Jamaca added.
LTFRB-10 earlier said that its office is open to petitions from transport groups in the region.
However, the agency reminded drivers and operators of public utility vehicles not to increase fares yet while the provisional fare increase petition is still under review by the central office.
On Monday, March 9, 2026, a group of transport cooperatives in Northern Mindanao filed a petition seeking a P5 provisional fare increase due to the continued rise in diesel prices.
