For the third time in the first quarter of 2026, the Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island erupted, this time, on Sunday, March 15.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said moderately explosive eruption occurred at the summit of Kanlaon Volcano at 6:07 p.m.

The eruption generated a kilometer-high eruption column that drifted to the southwest.

This is the third event at Kanlaon Volcano in 2026, so far, following similar eruptions on February 19 and 26.

Alert Level 2 is maintained over Kanlaon Volcano and entry into the four-kilometer PDZ (Permanent Danger Zone) must be prohibited, PHIVOLCS said.

As of this writing, several areas near the volcano experienced ash fall like in Barangay Mansalanao in the town of La Castellana in Negros Occidental.
