Frost coated trees and crops in parts of Benguet as temperatures dropped to 7.5 degrees Celsius during the northeast monsoon, according to the state weather bureau.
Images taken around 10 a.m. on Saturday showed frost covering plants near Mount Pulag, the highest peak in Luzon, as cold winds from the amihan continued to affect northern areas.
In Kibungan, the intense cold caused not only frost but also ice to form on vegetable crops and plants.
Residents said water from irrigation sprinklers may have frozen due to the low temperature, coating the crops in ice.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that the temperature in Benguet dropped to 7.5°C on Saturday, the lowest recorded so far this northeast monsoon season.
The cold weather was also felt in nearby Baguio City.
