Strong winds from the Amihan, or the northeast monsoon, have begun damaging rice crops in parts of Northern Luzon.

In Casiguran, Aurora, local farmers reported that the cold, gusty winds battered growing rice plants. The Municipal Agriculture Office said the crops’ flowering stage is at risk, which could affect yields. Authorities are still assessing how many farmers have been affected.

The cool weather continues across Northern Luzon. Minimum temperatures were recorded at 9.8°C in La Trinidad, Benguet, 12.4°C in Baguio City, and 15.6°C in Basco, Batanes.

Besides the cold, the northeast monsoon may also bring light rains in some areas.
