A group of tricycle operators and drivers in Davao City is seeking a P5 fare increase amid rising fuel prices.
According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, Dr. Chona Advincula, head of the Motorized Vehicle Franchising and Regulatory Division, said a tricycle operators and drivers association has asked for the fare adjustment, which would raise the minimum fare to P15.
However, the office has yet to receive a formal petition from the group, as of this writing, and the association is still complying with requirements.
Advincula clarified that the minimum fare for tricycles in the first four kilometers remains at P10, with an additional P1 for every succeeding kilometer.
Once the petition is filed, the Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Board will review and evaluate the request.
Advincula also said that their office has received several complaints about excessive fare collection.
Based on investigation, some tricycles charging higher fare were hired exclusively by passengers.
Authorities reminded tricycle operators to submit a petition if they wish to request for in increase in fare.
