The prices of basic commodities in Bohol and Cebu have started to go up amid the rising prices of fuel.
At the Tagbilaran City Central Public Market, a kilo if fish has gone up sharply by P20 to P50.
This means, a kilo of fish now costs P300 to P600.
Aida Arceño, a fish vendor, said fewer fishermen have gone out to see because of the high cost of fuel.
"Gikan buwanon, menus ang nanagat tungod kay mahal ang krudo. Gansi sila paingon sa lawd,” she said.
She said consumers have started complaining about the higher prices.
"Nabalaka pud mi kay mahal ang presyo. Kami pud manindahay maningkamot man gyud mag-apas og presyo ijawat namo kay naa mi kada adlaw nga bayronon. Naay ubang customer musabot ra nga mahal ang isda, naay uban customer nga murekamo nga nagpamahal mi,” she said.
Aside from fish, the price of rice has also gone up to P65 per kilo from P42 per kilo.
The popular Ganador rice has gone up to P72 per kilo from P65.
The price of local rice has not increased, by far, but retailers might still bring the prices up if the price of fuel continues to increase.
Meanwhile, at the Tabunok Public Market in Cebu, inspectors check prices regularly, on a daily basis, since the prices of fuel started going up.
From an average of P54, a kilo of rice has gone up to P70 per kilo.
Eugene Torres, head of the market’s operations and maintenance, said they monitor the prices regularly so that these can be compared to the numbers with the Department of Agriculture (DA)-7.
“Atong gihingusgan ang pag-monitor sa mga presyo unya og unsay atong makuha pud, ato pong ipasa sa DA-7 nato sa regional office aron dunay comparison,” he said.
Aside from the prices of rice, the prices of fruits, vegetables, spices, and root crops have also gone up by P10 to P20 per kilo.
