A P2 fare increase for motorela in Cagayan de Oro City has been approved by the City Council’s Committee on Transportation amid the rising prices of petroleum products.

The approval was the result of public consultation conducted by the committee on Thursday, March 19, 2026.

A group of motorela drivers pushed for a P3 increase, but the committee settled for P2.

“Murag angay na gyud unta mag-increase pero dili man mi makahimo tungod sila man sa balaod,” a motorela driver said.

Committee chairman, Councilor Eric Salcedo, said the agreed fare adjustments are based on fuel price ranges:

  • P10 base fare when fuel prices are between P65 to P75 per liter
  • P12 when fuel prices reach P76 to P85 per liter
  • P13 when prices increase to P86 to P95 per liter

Salcedo said the current range is at P85.

“Ang range nato karon is P85, so dose na kay ang ilang demand tres is trese man,” Salcedo said.

He also added that drivers are not yet allowed to implement the increase pending approval from the City Council and the Office of the City Mayor, which will issue the official fare matrix.

“Taas pa ni nga proseso kay paghuman approve moadto pa ni sa opisina ni Mayor ayha dayon mohatag ang Office of the City Mayor og matrix,” Salcedo said.
