Residents of areas surrounding the Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island have been warned of the possibility of ash fall after at least four ash emissions were logged at the volcano from 9 p.m. on March 20, 2026 until 5 a.m. on March 21.

PHIVOLCS recorded the first emission at 9 p.m. and the second at 11 p.m. on March 20. At 5 a.m. on March 21, two ash emissions were recorded.

PHIVOLCS said the ash emissions indicate continued magmatic unrest.

As of this writing, no ash fall was recorded in areas surrounding the volcano but residents are advised to report the same to authorities immediately if they experience ash fall.

Pearly Sianson, Science Research Specialist at the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory, said they have deployed a team to monitor LGUs that may experience an ash fall.

“Hanggang ngayon wala tayong natatanggap. May team tayong idineploy sa field upang mag-survey kung merong ashfall. Nagpapakita na active pa rin. Maaari pa ring mangyari, merong mangyayaring same event na isang moderately explosive eruption,” she said.

Alert Level 2 remains hoisted over Kanlaon Volcano.

The most recent moderately explosive eruption of the Kanlaon Volcano on March 15, 2026, generated a kilometer-high eruption column that drifted southwest.

Up to 50 barangays in 10 local government units were affected by ash fall following that eruption.

The event on March 15 was the third time Kanlaon erupted in the first quarter of 2026. The first was on February 19 and the second was on February 26.

Because of these successive eruptions in just two months, the Office of Civil Defense in Negros Island Region is mulling over the need to raise the alert level to three.
