The governor of Surigao del Sur is now in stable condition after figuring in a motorcycle accident in Barangay Bitaugan East, Cagwait town on Friday, March 20, 2026.

According to the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office, Governor Johnny Pimentel was heading to Tandag City from Hinatuan on board his motorcycle when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle upon reaching a slippery and curved road in Sitio Putting Buhangin, causing the motorcycle to slide and impact a steel post.

Pimentel was rushed to a medical facility where he received medical attention and underwent evaluation.

In a Facebook post, the Office of the Governor said Pimentel is now recovering but remains under close monitoring.

The office assured the public that the incident has been addressed properly, and there is no ongoing public safety concern related to the accident.

Public service and government operations also continue and remain in place.

“We understand the concern of our constituents and stakeholders, and we sincerely appreciate the prayers, messages, and well wishes extended to the Governor and his family,” the Office of the Governor said.

“While we continue to pray for his full and fast recovery, may we kindly request the public to rely only on official updates from the Office of the Governor to avoid the spread of misinformation,” it added.
