A grass fire razed an estimated 20 hectares of grassland inside the compound of the General Santos City International Airport.

The fire broke out afternoon on Friday, March 20, 2026, and was put out after more than three hours.

Firefighters responded immediately, but the fire spread quickly due to dry vegetation in the area.

No one was reported hurt in the incident.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) confirmed that the incident occurred far from the perimeter of Runway 117, where important airport equipment was located.

No flights were also disrupted.

“Wala man kay layo pa man gud siya medyo lapad man gud ang airport sa Gensan. Layo pa siya sa runway at saka wala man nakahatag og perwisyo sa eroplano nga  nagaagi sa airport,” BFP Calumpang Commander, SFO2 Niteul Bacate, said.

Investigation into the incident continues.
