A one-year-old boy was injured after he was pierced by a nail pusher in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
Health authorities said the boy sustained a wound in the chest from the sharp tool used commonly for nail care.
According to the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) and Tawi-Tawi Provincial Hospital, the boy was reportedly playing with the object unnoticed, based on accounts of his parents. He reportedly fell and the pusher pierced the left side of his chest.
“Hindi siguro napansin naglaro siya ng sharp object na nail pusher. Accidentally, ang nangyari natumba yung bata and then natusok yung left chest niya at nadala dito sa hospital,” Dr. Sangkula Laja of IPHO Tawi-Tawi said.
The boy was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. He is now in stable condition.
Health officials reminded parents and guardians to monitor their children closely, especially when they are playing, and to keep hazardous objects out of their reach to prevent a similar incident.
