A female rider died while her companion is in critical condition after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a van truck in Barangay Bayanga, Cagayan de Oro City on Monday, March 23, 2026.

Based on investigation, the motorcycle allegedly swerved suddenly to the opposite lane and crashed into the oncoming truck head-on.

“Possible nakatulog unsa ba kaha kay hawan man, kay wala man sab ingon nga mi-overtake (ang motor) according sa driver sa van, kay wala man siya’y gi-overtake-kan,” Cagayan de Oro City Poice Office (COCPO) Traffic Unit Investigator, Staff Sergeant Rhodore Zambas Jr., said.

Authorities believe both vehicles were traveling at high speed, and the motorcycle was dragged for more than 36 meters.

The rider and her companion were rushed to a hospital, but the rider was declared dead. The truck driver was also hospitalized after sustaining injuries.

All parties involved are expected to meet for a possible settlement.

Police also reminded motorists to wear helmets and avoid crossing double solid yellow lines, especially on road where vehicles travel at high speeds.

“Dapat mag-helmet gyud at the same time kanang dalana kusog ang dagan sa mga sakyanan diha that’s why nabutangan na og double solid yellow line. So, supposed to be double solid yellow line dapat dili ta mag-encroach or overtake sa opposite lane,” Zambas added.
