A 25-year-old woman died after she was stabbed at least 20 times by her cousin in Barangay Agusan, Cagayan de Oro City on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

Police said the victim’s seven-year-old son, who reportedly witnessed the attack, identified the suspect as his 26-year-old uncle.

“Napangutana man gyud pud nako ang maong bata, ang minor nga anak nga lalaki… naa gyud pud siya sa panahon nga gidunggab ang iyang mama… ang iyang uyoan ang identified niya,” Investigator, Master Sergeant Charlie Ganzan, said.

The victim’s son managed to escape and sought assistance from neighbors.

The victim’s partner reportedly told authorities that the suspect allegedly borrowed money from the victim prior to the incident, which is now being considered as a possible motive.

“Inisyal nga istorya nanghulam og kwarta; basin daw og wala gipahulam nasuko pero di pa gyud na mao ang atong focus sa investigation… medyo mabaw pa gihapon… ato sa palawman ang imbestigasyon, dili sa ta mo-focus sa paghulam hulam og kwarta,” Ganzan added.

The suspect was arrested and was brought to a hospital after sustaining injuries. He may face murder charges.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family is seeking financial assistance to transport her remains back to their hometown in Cabanglasan, Bukidnon.
