Authorities are pursuing the killers of a 36-year-old barangay chairwoman in Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur who was shot dead while on her way to a barangay activity.

Barangay Licuroan Chairwoman Jhing Mandao did not reach the hospital alive after she was shot multiple times on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

According to the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office, the victim was traveling on a motorcycle with a 20-year-old male companion toward Barangay Licuroan from Poblacion when she reportedly decided to continue on foot due to poor road conditions.

A few moments later, gunshots were heard in a forested area with no residents nearby.

The victim was found later with multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities also recovered four empty shells and a deformed slug from a caliber .45 pistol at the area.

Investigation into the incident continues to determine the motive.

“Police officers are now investigating the matter seriously and assures the public that justice will be served,” the police said.

Investigators also urged those who have knowledge about the incident to come forward.

“Rest assured that all information will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” police said.

Meanwhile, the Liga ng mga Barangay of Zamboanga del Sur condemned the incident and expressed sympathies to the bereaved family.

“We mourn not only the passing of a leader, but the loss of a dedicated public servant whose life was committed to the service of the people,” the Liga ng mga Barangay-Zamboanga del Sur chapter said.

“We strongly condemn this act of violence and call on the authorities to ensure that justice will be served,” it added.
