Two men were arrested in an entrapment operation in Quezon, Bukidnon for allegedly selling fake gold bars.
Police said the operation was launched after a complainant sought assistance after allegedly being scammed by the suspects identified as alias “Jonel,” 29, and alias “Ronie,” 32.
Based on investigation, the victim reportedly met the suspects online where the transaction for the fake gold bars was arranged.
The victim reportedly sent a down payment of P35,000 and was scheduled to meet the suspects for the second time when he began to suspect that the items were fake.
“Ikaduha unta nila nga pag meet-up but na sense sa complainant nga dili na consistent ug posibilidad peke ang gold bars,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said.
Seized from the suspects were two fake gold bars, a cellphone used in the transaction, and the motorcycle they used.
The suspects are facing charges for swindling.
Police reminded the public to verify the legitimacy of transactions and to exercise caution when dealing with online sellers to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
