The Parada Dabawenyo, which culminates the 89th Araw ng Dabaw in Davao City on Saturday, March 28, 2026, will take a fuel-saving approach with contingents required to join on foot to help reduce fuel consumption amid the rising oil prices.
The organizer said up to 407 contingents, composed of around 35,000 individuals, are expected to take part in the parade, which will start at 6 a.m. from Roxas Avenue and end at the San Pedro Square.
“This is different but refreshing because we are updating the Parada Dabawenyo, this time na medyo seryoso siya. There is no entertainment. So, ang tanan, gi-awhag sila nga mag-sanina nga smart casual or semi-formal as we come together walking from Roxas to San Pedro Square,” Parada Dabawenyo Organizer, Harold Quibete, said.
Unlike previous editions, no vehicle assets will be allowed to move along the parade route. Instead, military trucks, fire trucks, and other equipment will be placed on display along designated areas, particularly on C.M. Recto Street and near San Pedro Square.
“From Claveria which is CM Recto St., naa siya i-display tanan ang atoang mga assets kanang tanke de gyera, fire trucks, naa siya sa right side sa street mismo tapos ang uban pang mga assets nato, naa siya nakadisplay atbang mismo sa San Pedro Square,” Quibete added.
Up to 48 marching bands will also participate, but they will only play marching music.
Councilor J. Melchor Quitain, Jr. earlier filed a resolution for the walk-only setup, urging participants to avoid the use of gasoline, diesel, oil-powered, or even electric vehicles during the parade to help conserve fuel.
Several roads will be closed temporarily starting 4 a.m. until the parade concludes, including Roxas Ave. (Cor. Quezon Blvd. to Ponciano Rotonda), C.M.Recto Ave. (Cor. Magsaysay Ave. to Cor. Pichon St.), Rizal St. (Cor. C.M.Recto Ave. to Cor. Iñigo St.), Iñigo St. (Cor. Rizal St. to Cor. San Pedro St.), San Pedro St. (Cor. C.M.Recto Ave. to Cor. Iñigo St.), City Hall compound, and Old Engineers Alley.
Additional closures will be implemented in the afternoon on San Pedro St. (Cor. C.M.Recto Ave. to Cor. Iñigo St.) for a concert, which will start at 1 p.m. until the celebration ends.
Meanwhile, a solidarity walk will also be held at 4 p.m. from Roxas Avenue to Rizal Park in celebration of the 81st birthday of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will deploy at least 877 personnel to provide security during the activity.
“Two to three hours naa na gyud ang atoang kapulisan sa maong area and apil na pud diha ang atong city explosives and K9 units. So, naa tay 877 ka mga personal from DCPO palang na, wala pay labot sa uban. And also sa birthday sa atoang former President, apil na pud na sya sa atoang meeting ugma puhon,” DCPO Spokesperson, Capt. Hazel Caballero, said.
