Five police officers were killed while three others were injured after their patrol car was ambushed in Barangay Mother Poblacion, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur at around 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

According to the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), the victims were on their way back to their detachment at Camp Datu Akilan after conducting patrol and police visibility operations when they were attacked by unidentified suspects.

The police officers injured include a captain, a senior master sergeant, and a patrolman, all members of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company. They’re receiving treatment at a hospital.

Police said all necessary measures are being undertaken to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) condemned the incident, calling it a direct assault on law enforcement and a threat to peace and order.

Operatives are pursuing the suspects, as of this writing.

“We will not waver. This attack will not go unanswered. Justice will be swift, certain, and uncompromising,” PNP said.
