A barangay councilman was arrested with suspected shabu worth around P176,800 in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Libuac, Rosario, Agusan del Sur over the weekend.
According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Caraga (PDEA-13), anti-narcotics agents monitored and verified the suspect’s alleged involvement in illegal drug activities prior to the operation.
“The involvement of a public servant in illegal drug activities is considered a serious breach of public trust and integrity, making this operation a crucial step in reinforcing accountability in government service,” PDEA-13 said.
Seized during the operation were sachets of suspected shabu weighing around 26 grams, a mobile phone, a motorcycle, and an identification card confirming the suspect’s position as a barangay official.
The suspect is now detained and will face charges for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165).
PDEA-13 said the arrest highlighted the government’s intensified and impartial campaign against illegal drugs, even within the ranks of public servants.
“Authorities highlighted that the arrest of an elected official sends a strong message that no individual is exempt from the law,” PDEA-13 added.
