Four tricycle drivers and one PUJ driver tested positive for illegal drugs during a surprise inspection in Aklan, Antique, and Roxas City.
At least 600 drivers were made to undergo the surprise drug test.
The test was part of Oplan Harabas of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-6 implemented to ensure road safety in the anticipated influx of passengers for Holy Week.
Shey Tanaleon, spokesperson of PDEA-6, said those who tested positive will not be allowed to travel.
“They will be referred to proper intervention and then i-confiscate sang LTO ang ila nga mga licenses and prevented sila from doing their trips,” Tanaleon said.
At least 8,400 passengers were recorded entering Western Visayas since March 28, 2026.
The Coast Guard is on heightened alert and has deployed 416 personnel across the region.
“Nag-deploy na tayo ng 416 personnel all throughout Western Visayas. Tapos may na-inspect na 98 vessel. Mayroon tayong inspected na motorbancas, 83. Tapos rolling cargoes natin nasa 9,046,” said Ltjg. Aldrin Barnizo, spokesperson of the Coast Guard in Western Visayas.
