Authorities have warned residents in Cotabato City to take precautions during Holy Week activities as extreme heat may continue to affect the city.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the heat index in the city may reach 41 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
This level falls under the “extreme caution” category, where prolonged exposure to the sun may lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke, especially among vulnerable sectors such as children and senior citizens.
With this, the state weather bureau urged those who will participate in Holy Week activities such as Senakulo performances and Visita Iglesia to take extra caution.
The public is urged to stay hydrated by drinking more than eight glasses of water daily and to limit direct exposure to sunlight. PAGASA also reminded the public to bring umbrellas, wear hats, and stay in shaded or well-ventilated areas whenever possible.
“Uminom ng maraming tubig as much as possible, more than 8 glasses a day.
PAGASA clarified that high heat index is not yet due to El Niño, but is caused by easterlies that brings warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.
