A police car was damaged after two separate explosions were reported in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
The first blast occurred around 7:40 a.m., targeting the wall of the municipal administrator’s residence, who is reportedly a relative of the town mayor.
The second explosion followed a few minutes later along a road in Barangay Sapakan as police officers were responding to the first incident.
The police’s patrol car was damaged after it was hit by shrapnel.
No one was hurt in the two incidents.
According to the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), the suspects fled after the explosions.
Authorities added that the incidents coincided with the assumption of office of the new provincial director of the Maguindanao del Sur Police Provincial Office, Col. Michael John Mangahis, who replaced Col. Sultan Salman Sapal.
However, PRO-BAR said it is early to conclude if the activity and the explosions are connected.
“This is very early na mag-conclude tayo na merong koneksyon ito doon sa sinasabing assumption of office,” PRO-BAR Spokesperson, Capt. Steffi Salanguit, said.
Authorities are also verifying whether the suspects are linked to a local terrorist group believed to be behind the ambush in Shariff Aguak town on March 28, which left five police officers dead and three others wounded.
“Hindi din pwede ikonekta agad-agad habang ang mga units ay nag-co-conduct pa rin ng verification and investigation,” Salanguit added.
